Case study · Electrical & Heat Pumps

35 leads in month one.

Whangārei · Northland

This client is an electrician and heat pump installer in Whangārei. When we took over their Google Ads, the account was two catch-all ad groups with broken tracking. We rebuilt it around their services, and in the first month it brought in 35 tracked leads at $42.24 each.

The starting point

An account that couldn't tell what was working.

The business does a lot more than general electrical work: heat pumps, EV chargers, ventilation, smoke alarms and emergency call-outs. The ads treated it all as one thing, and with tracking broken there was no way to see which searches were bringing in work.

  • Two catch-all ad groups: one held around 250 heat pump keywords, the other everything from EV chargers to oven repairs
  • Every keyword on broad match, and almost no negative keywords to block the junk
  • Every ad went to the home page, although the site had a page for each service
  • The quote form had stopped reporting for five weeks, and phone calls weren't tracked at all
What we did

Rebuilt around what they actually do.

We kept what worked, rebuilt what didn't, and went live on 30 July. Hands-on Google Ads management from the first day.

An ad group for every service

We split two catch-all groups into 16, from heat pump installs and servicing to EV chargers, extraction fans, smoke alarms and emergency call-outs. Each has its own keywords and its own ads.

Each ad lands on the right page

A heat pump search lands on the heat pump page, an EV charger search on the EV charger page. The person gets the answer they searched for, not a home page they have to dig through.

Every call and form tracked

We fixed the broken form tracking and added phone taps, so every lead is counted and Google can learn which searches turn into work.

Search only, junk blocked

We took the ads off the Display network, where they were buying cheap, low-intent clicks, and blocked searches for competitors, DIY help and products they don't sell.

The results

Month one, by service.

What stands out

  • 35 tracked leads in the first month after the rebuild: 18 quote forms and 17 phone calls.
  • 32 of the 35 came from people searching for the service they needed, not the business name.
  • Leads came in across the business: 14 for heat pumps, 11 for electricians and 7 for other services like EV chargers and extraction fans.
  • 11 of the 16 new service groups produced a lead in month one.
The trajectory

Month one is the baseline.

With every lead now tracked, each month shows which services and towns bring in work. We move the budget toward those and keep blocking the searches that don't, so the account gets sharper from here.
