How Can Google Ads Help You Advance Your Business Goals?

Is Google Ads the secret ingredient to boosting your business in 2024? Let’s discover the power of PPC advertising!

The short answer to whether Google Ads can help advance your business goals is yes it can and this article goes into why.

Key takeaways:

  • Google Ads is a platform for advertising your business at the top of the Google search results page.
  • Google ads is an auction system, meaning multiple businesses can bid on the same keywords and Google decides which ads to display in the search results based on bid amount, ad quality, and your website.
  • Google Ads can provide valuable information about customers beyond their demographic profile and can be used to improve business goals, increase customer engagement and satisfaction, and gain a competitive edge.
  • Google Ads is very good at being able to calculate the ROI of your ad spend vs how many leads you generate or sales you make online.

So, how can google ads help you advance your business goals, anyway?

Competition online among business owners is fierce, and it’s only getting more intense as more and more companies shift their marketing efforts to the internet.

One platform where this competition is especially evident is Google Ads.

When you create an ad with Google Ads, they choose specific keywords you think people will use to search for your business or products. Then, when someone searches for those keywords on Google, your ad has a chance to show up on the search results page.

But it’s not just a matter of your ad showing up. Google Ads is an auction, which means that there could be other businesses also bidding on the same keywords as you. Google decides which ads to show by considering how much each business is willing to pay for a single click on their ad, as well as the quality of the ad and the website it leads to (called AdRank).

As a result, the competition on Google Ads can be intense, with businesses constantly trying to outdo each other by bidding more aggressively in order to attract and convert potential customers. But if you bid too high, your advertising could become too expensive.

The goal is to find a balance and bid enough to get your ad in front of the right people, without spending too much money.

To succeed at this, it’s important to stay up-to-date on the latest best practices and continually optimize your campaigns in order to stay ahead of the competition

Keep reading to learn how to achieve this and stay one step ahead of your rivals.

1. Using Google Ads as a keyword research tool

One effective method I like to use for conducting keyword research for SEO is to set up a Google Search Ads campaign.

This allows you to gather information on the impressions, clicks and conversion rates of various keywords, giving you insight into which terms and phrases are most effective within your industry.

You can then use this information to craft a targeted content strategy for SEO and optimize your website to improve your ranking in search results.

2. Fast, detailed results

Compared to other types of marketing, Google Ads is very quick to set up and to start getting results. You can start to see results almost immediately and tweak campaigns on an ongoing basis to meet your business goals.

We still suggest that an effective Google Ads campaign can take 4 or more months to really start heating up, as it is important to let the Google AI/machine learning gather at minimum two weeks of data before making any major changes.

We recommend giving campaigns around a month of data before giving up on certain keywords depending on the volume of impressions and clicks.

3. Reaching Consumers in the Purchase Phase

The great thing about Google Ads is that you can simply put your ads on the most commercially relevant keywords for your products or services. E.g. keywords with buyers intent like buy xyz, best prices for xyz, xyz deals, xyz reviews or xyz vs abc.

Usually, at this point, consumers have gone through the research and consideration phases and are in the purchase phase of the buying funnel.

The only downside to this is that usually these keywords are very competitive and can have high costs per click, but if you are still able to have a positive ROI then it is worth investing in these competitive keywords.

4. Improve your customer data

Did you know that Google Ads can provide valuable information about your customers that goes beyond just their demographic profile?

By understanding your potential customers’ needs, behaviour, and habits, you can improve your business goals and gain repeat customers, leading to steady revenue and can give you a competitive edge over your competitors.

With this customer data, you can enhance your campaigns or products to keep your audience engaged and satisfied. You can also use this information for remarketing, by targeting previous website visitors and encouraging them to make a purchase.

5. Calculate and maximise ROI

Some business owners might think that Google Ads is too expensive since you have to pay for each click whether it leads to a conversion or not. However, if you optimize your campaign and figure out what approach works best, you can end up with a high return on investment (ROI)

There are a few different ways to calculate ROI for your ads, but the basic formula is (revenue generated from ad – cost of ad) / cost of ad. This will give you a percentage value that tells you how much profit you made from your ad spend.

It’s important to note that ROI calculation isn’t just about financial return. You can also consider other factors, such as brand awareness and customer engagement, in your ROI calculation. This can help you understand the full impact of your ads on your business.

By regularly calculating the ROI of your ads, you can optimize your ad spend and ensure that you’re getting the best possible return on your investment. This will help you grow your business and achieve your marketing goals.

At the start of a campaign, we like to help our clients establish clear goals for their ads. If they’re not sure what their target should be, we can work with them to come up with a realistic and achievable goal.

6. Boosting Top-of-Mind Awareness with Google Ads

Connecting your brand with your customers through Google Ads is a powerful way to grow your business. As your target audience regularly see your ads online, they become more familiar with your product and message. This in turn can eventually lead to a trusting relationship and them turning into a customer.

Improving your brand’s recall value is crucial for generating a profit and gaining new customers. In a way, increasing brand awareness is like advertising without having to spend additional money.

What’s next?

Google Ads is a powerful tool for businesses looking to advance their goals in the digital world. With its various campaign types, targeted advertising, and detailed results, it can help to increase brand awareness, drive high-quality traffic and leads, and track and analyse marketing efforts including ROI.
